Juvenile Records Sealing Clinic

If you have a criminal juvenile record, it can make things difficult later in your life. Applying for college, finding a job, and getting housing can be more difficult with a criminal record. There may be a way for you to get your record sealed. That allows you to legally check the "No" box when asked on an application whether you have a criminal record.

SYLAW currently collaborates with volunteers from the University of Washington School of Law to provide free assistance to individuals trying to seal their juvenile records in King County.  The clinic is held once a month during the university's academic year.   Volunteer law students meet with clinic clients to help them complete the necessary court paperwork and navigate the court process. There's no need to make an appointment and no need to bring anything with you!

Am I Eligible to Have My Records Sealed?

You meet the requirements to have youth records sealed if you can answer "Yes" to the following questions:

~Has it been at least 2 years since you were last released from confinement for a juvenile misdemeanor or class C felony?

~Has it been at least 2 years since you last completed a diversion?

~Has it been at least 5 years since you were last released from confinement for a class B felony?

~Have you remained crime-free since your last conviction?

~Have you paid all your court-ordered fines or fees?

If you have any questions about whether you meet these requirements, the volunteers at the Record Sealing Clinic can help figure it out.
